The business and consumer requirement for ultrafast broadband continue to accelerate, this has been accentuated by the COVID-19 event and the increased bandwidth requirement for home working and schooling.  This change in requirements has also highlighted the capacity failings in the network as it stands, particularly the poor performance of the copper elements, showing DSL technology is now obsolete.  This has manifested itself in the reality that the content providers have had to downgrade the quality of streaming services, and an overall reduction of speeds has been experienced, leading to poor user experience – all triggered by the increase in demand.
